Hello Summer! this month’s Walkabout for the month of June finds me walking Fisherman’s Wharf and around the bay. Walk around beautiful Bayfront Park, past docks and piers and as night falls, catch the harbour lights along Discovery Way.

Enjoy the green open spaces, trees and waterways as you walk along the shoreline trails.  Linger by the marinas and the Yacht club watching the boats sailing or motoring on the Bay.

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned English style Fish & Chip lunch or dinner or Surf & Turf? You might find me at the corner of Bay North and Strachan, at a diner in a cottage like setting.  Hutch’s On the Beach, 325 Bay Street North,

905-546-5508. Open for take out. Choose from their delicious menu options of beer battered fish & chips or burger or cheese burger combos with other delights, plus an ice cream parlour so you can grab a cone to go. Or visit their original location: Hutch’s Dingley Dell, 280 Van Wagners Beach Road, 905-545-5508. Menu: hutchs.ca. Open for take-out or delivery. Whether out for a picnic in the park or parking it on a blanket or beach Hutch’s doesn’t disappoint. So, if you’re out walking the wharf and end up back at Hutch’s, pat yourself on the back, for you just walked 5 miles, so now treat yourself to that ice cream cone.

A short stroll up James Street North you will find Fisher’s Pier 4 Pub and Grub

554 James Street N., 905-526-9622, Menu fisherspier.com, (not open at time of writing – call to confirm). This neighbourhood institution resembles an English pub and features a cool outdoor patio.

Or if Fish & Chips and Surf & Turf are not your thing try the Shrimp Stir Fry at The Harbour Diner 486 James Street N., 905-523-0153 Open for delivery or side door pickup. Known for their breakfast or brunch, as well as a full menu and excellent pie.

Take a summertime stroll from morning ‘til dusk on the harbour front, enjoy a snack or a meal and catch the magnificent sunsets.  Support the restaurants and shops in your neighbourhood.

Happy walking, eating and having a “Good Ole Fashion Picnic Day”. enjoy this summer, get out and stretch those legs.
