This month’s Walkabout is all about getting out and walking about the great neighborhoods in Hamilton. Here are a few of my favorite streets and neighborhoods to check out during March Break.
North End The North End is a wonderful neighborhood. The area is bounded by the CNR Railway to the South, Wellington Street to the East and the Hamilton Harbour on both the North and West sides of the neighborhood. Discover the docks, piers and the beautiful Bayfront Park with wonderful bike and walking trails. It is just so beautiful and stunning. From the wonderful cafe, galleries, restaurants museums and shops. The North End neighbourhood is a friendly community and Home to the North End Breezes newsletter since 1971.
James Street North is a vibrant, cool community and a wonderful neighborhood for work, rest or play with over 130 independent merchants. Looking for that wonderful dining experience? Look no further than James North. Looking for a vast array of cool, funky vintage clothing stores, James Street North has you covered. Wonderful old school charm with a European feel. Visit coffee houses, lovely bistros and patios. James Street North is also known for Art Crawl and Super Crawl.
Locke Street South Did you know that Locke Street South is the most popular street in Hamilton. It is part of the Kirkendall neighborhood and has become a go-to destination for those who love to eat well and it’s a fun street with great bistros and cafes. With the quaint shops and lovely shopkeepers, it is the go-to spot to shop for crafters to be inspired. This is another wonderful street to stroll through. Look for the bridge and fence with all the locks attached and you have arrived.
Ottawa Street North is another shopping district and a cool neighborhood offering over 100 unique shops, great food and fabulous finds. Ottawa Street will inspire even the novice DIYer. For those who love to go antique shopping Ottawa Street does not disappoint. Did you know that Ottawa Street is also known as Hamilton’s historic fabric district. Most definitely the go to place for fabrics. The Ground Press is a retro coffee house with an adjoining, stunning art gallery. For the curious mind you also have an array of curio shops with fascinating oddities and unique collectables. It is absolutely fascinating.
Discover the coolest pockets in the town or city where you reside. Start walking through wonderful neighborhoods and surrounding areas throughout all the seasons.
This walkabout it is also about the culture, heritage and the history of the North End and Hamilton. It is a wonderful way to spend a day or evening out. It is a nice way to break away from your old routines.
