For those in the neighbourhood who were unable to join us at our last association meeting, we want to provide a brief update.
Environmental Committee:
- Coordination is on-going to support and be part of an initiative to plant 1 million new trees in the City
- We heard concerns and discussed the exhaust from trains idling along Strachan. A monition was put forward to request air monitoring in the community, asking authorises to look at cleaner options and contacts were discussed if people want to reach out on there own.
Planning Committee:
- Jamesville redevelopment plan has been approved by the Minister but still need to go through City approval
- Hamilton official plan is being revised, the City provided an overview at NENA’s request of how the changes affect our neighbourhood and these are being reviewed by the committee
- Due to City cyber security incident projects in (raised intersection at Bayfront Park) and around (pedestrian crossing from Liuna to GO station) our community are delayed but still have approval with work starting on some this summer.
Community Updates & Discussion:
- The North End Breezes, NENA, Welcome Inn and other community groups/ organizations are looking for volunteers – now is the time to join, no training required
- A lack of garbage cans at Eastwood Park was discussed, NENA will follow up with the Ward 2 office to determine if and when more can be installed
- The City is preparing a report regarding the use and resulting effects from using Bennetto Community Centre as a warming centre during the recent cold weather. NENA and other groups want to see and review the report when prepared and released.
