According to it’s new report, the Canadian Centre for economic Analysis, Basic Income can grow Ontario’s economy $40B/year, add 287,000 jobs and end Poverty. In 1974 at the age of 14, I read an article in the New York Times on Universal Basic Income in Denmark and this coincided with my first part time job that I had started working in downtown Hamilton at the recently opened Lloyd D. Jackson Square (1972). It was my first realization that Hamilton had real poverty. I simply put 2 and 2 together; me working at a job and others panhandling in the Core who did not have a job. 47 years later, nothing has changed.
We need to own this and step up to end it now. UBI is the answer plain and simple. We all have a moral and ethical obligation to ensure Bill C-223 passes in the Legislature. C-223 (44-1) – LEGISinfo – Parliament of Canada.
