HOPA Ports is proud to present its Summary Report of Sustainability Actions in 2021.The report outlines HOPA’s ongoing commitment to transparency, and explores what the port does, how it interacts with our community, and how decisions are made to support social, environmental and economic sustainability. It is also an opportunity to celebrate our successes. HOPA’s network of sustainable ports are the product of the hard work and collaboration of our HOPA staff, neighbourhood partners, non-profit organizations, government and industry colleagues.
Sustainability Highlights:
- Electric Vehicle Charging: HOPA’s EV charging station saved a total of 11,163 kg of greenhouse gases in 2021. This is equivalent to planting 185 trees!
- LNG Ship Fueling: In 2021, 16 more vessels refueled in Hamilton using LNG, reducing GHGs by 21% over traditional fuels.
- Charitable Sponsorships & Donations: HOPA Ports cash & in-kind donations in 2021 totaled $269,000.
- Capital Investments: HOPA is mandated to reinvest its earnings in Canada’s port infrastructure, helping to build a competitive and efficient national transportation system. Recent years have seen an acceleration of our capital infrastructure program, with 2022 expected to be the biggest investment year ever.
