Did you know that the North End Neighbourhood Association (NENA) meets the first Wednesday of every month? For over a year NENA has been meeting online. While we miss the informal chats before and after the meetings, and the ability to connect with neighbours one-on-one, online meetings are more accessible for a lot of people who were unable to make it to our regular meeting spot at the Bennetto Community Centre.

Whether you just want to listen to what is happening in the neighbourhood, have an issue you’d like to raise, or participate in one of the many committees, everyone in the neighbourhood is welcome to attend. We’d love to see you there!

This month discussions included the upcoming construction of two large properties in our neighbourhood. Both the Jamesville redevelopment and Pier 8 development will start this year. With this constrcution comes concerns about air quality, noise by-laws, truck routes and more. NENA’s Planning and Traffic Committee have all of these items on their radar as the start of construction draws near.

NENA is also working on saving the Simcoe Tot Lot and Sunset Garden, located at the corner of Bay and Strachan from development. The Simcoe Tot Lot, as it is offically called by the City, is a City-designated neighbourhood park and it is NENA’s goal to save this park without compromising any new affordable housing development. If you would like a sign to support this cause you can reach out to Allyson Wenzowski at awenzowski1@cogeco.ca.

Other issues disscused at January’s meeting included the Mary Street bridge falling into disrepair, Welcome Signs at James Street and McNab Street have fallen down and need replacing, and the Bay Street rainwater gutter is unfinished.

NENA’s next meeting is on Wednesday, February 2nd at 7pm. You can receive the zoom link by signing up for our newsletter on the home page of www.northendneighbourhoodassociation.com/ or by watching our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NorthEndNeighbours.
