Port Update: 2019 Community Highlights
Port Tours
HOPA was able to give the community a closer look at Hamilton’s working waterfront this year through Doors Open Hamilton at 210 Hillyard St., Port of Hamilton boat tours on the Hamilton Harbour Queen, and a walking tour of Sherman Inlet.
#FightHungerThisSummer
HOPA organized the first ever #FightHungerThisSummer food drive. As a result, over 860 lbs of food donations, non-perishables, hygiene and baby products were collected for Hamilton’s Welcome Inn Community Centre in the North End and Oshawa’s Simcoe Hall Settlement House.
Supporting Our Community
HOPA was able to support a number of community organizations this year through donations, including a donation to Liberty for Youth in support of their Bright Choices Program, and CityKidz to help provide sustainable funding to cover transportation costs.
Community Events
HOPA participated in several community events in the North End this year including Park n’ Party and the Hamilton Harbour Fishing Derby.
EV Chargers
Two new electric vehicle chargers at 605 James St. N were installed in September, and are now operational and available for staff and public to use.
As shipping season comes to an end, HOPA looks forwards to spending another year with our North End Neighbors in 2020!
