As we navigate COVID-19 we continue to take your tips, pay out tipsters and care for our Community. It has been a little bit so let me re-introduce myself and our program.
My name is Kevin McKnight and I am your Program Co-Ordinator for Hamilton Crime Stoppers. Subsequent articles will focus on our current events, initiatives, crimes we are trying to solve and we will be asking for your TIPS.
Crime Stoppers is a citizen program that works to help stop, prevent and solve crime. Crime Stoppers is an investigative tool that relies equally on the co-operation of law enforcement, the media and the community. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit charitable organization, is separate and not funded by any police service or government. Crime Stoppers encourages citizens to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously with information about crimes already committed or about to be committed. The guarantee of anonymity, the promise to not appear in court as a witness, and the offer of a cash reward has proven to be an effective tool.
The TIP-line number 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). It is open 24/7 and we do not subscribe to caller display.

Crime Stoppers is proud to be “On the Water”. Well, not actually ON the water, but close. Crime Stoppers of Hamilton, HOPA Ports’ Harbour Masters Office/Port Patrol team, and the Hamilton Police Marine Unit formed a new partnership with the debut of Crime Stoppers “On the Water” to help keep all 200 square kilometres of Hamilton’s waterways safe for everyone who uses them.
This initiative will provide the public in and around Hamilton Harbour an opportunity to help keep waterfront safe by reporting tips anonymously. The partnership is committed to protecting the community, providing safety, and fighting crime on the water.
Common crimes that can be reported, but not limited to, include:
- Illicit activities
- Thefts
- Vandalism
- Break and Enters
- Drugs
- Habitual Watercraft Violations
We are always about community, safety and awareness. We look forward to sharing more exciting community partnerships, program initiatives and of course getting those tips for investigators we try to assist through media.
Thank you and always be safe!
