North Ender of the Year Award – Call for Nominations

This award recognizes long term residents of the North End for their contributions to the community. It is held on the second Saturday in July from noon to 4:00 pm. Come and meet residents, hear their stories and see the amazing photos that have been collected over the years.

Each year we choose one recipient and in 2016, that was Ken Davy.

Ken was born on August 11, 1926. Raised in the North End, he lived at 479 Hughson Street North. He attended Bennetto School and the Hamilton Technical Institute. During WW II, he joined the Navy and went to sea aboard the HMCS Mount Forest.

Ken returned to work for several companies including Ferris Advertising, then to the Steel Company of Canada in 1950, becoming their Advertising Manager in 1963. He achieved numerous awards that included “Advertising Man of the year in 1971.

Since retiring Ken has been active in in the Probus Club of Burlington, Hamilton Video & Film Makers and Burlington Historical Society. He is an accomplished landscape artist and filmmaker. Recently, he published his first book and had an art show at the James Street Bookseller’s and Gallery.

Ken has been an inspiration and role model to all that know him and is much loved by his wife Iris, their four children, Carol, Denise, Mark and Drew, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Truly a legacy and well deserving of the 2016 North Ender of the Year Award.
